Dr Govind K Makharia is presently a Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. He has received his training from prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He has trained 80 fellows in gastroenterology and 9 PhD students. He has published 230 articles in the indexed journals, 38 chapters for different books and edited a hand-book on celiac disease. He is the secretary General of Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Co-Chair, Clinical Research Committee, World Gastroenterology Organization; Council Member of Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology; Co-inventor of a device for fecal incontinence and a liver biopsy needle (Bioscoop); Core member of Asia Pacific Working Party on inflammatory bowel disease; Coordinator national taskforce on inflammatory bowel disease. He has received many awards including BMJ, South East Asia research paper of the year award 2016, ISG Om Prakash Memorial award, ISG-Zydus oration, SR Naik Memorial award, and AIIMS Excellence Awards. He has successfully organized Young Clinician Program for the past 11 years involving approximately 1000 GI trainees and the first Train the Trainers program in 2019 on behalf of Indian Society of Gastroenterology.
